Where is the clearest place on earth for star gazing?

I'm from the U.S. I'm going to Europe away from city lites in some of the small towns. I want to go star gazing there... that would be wonderful!Where is the clearest place on earth for star gazing?
Apparently it's on mountains in Hawaii, that's why most major powers have a huge telescope up there.

Very high up and well away from light pollution.Where is the clearest place on earth for star gazing?
Most of the big telescopes in the world are located in similar locations - in the mountains of Chile, Hawaii, southern Arizona, and La Palma in the Canary Islands. But anywhere away from the city lights will do just fine.
why don't you rather come to beautiful South Africa and do your star gazing from our own Sutherland? I don't think any other place in the world beats it when it comes to star gazing....
When we want to really see the stars we drive out to the Navajo Reservation. Take a trail off one of the ';main'; roads

Talk about total darkness!! Wait for the eyes to adjust and then you can see stars; meteor showers...... it is fantastic.

Some times we take a small telescope, however, it is not really necessary to get the full impact.
Usually out in the boonies away from polution
