What was the ball of fuzzy light in the clear sky amungst the stars?

I noticed it in mid October while looking at stars with binoculars. you could also see it with the naked eye. When I looked at it in mid November it seemed to be disapated somewhat and larger in diamiter. Was this something new or has it always been there? What was the ball of fuzzy light in the clear sky amungst the stars?
That could only be Comet 17/P Holmes, which is still visible but fading. It's been expanding from night to night ever since it flared up a to a million times its normal brightness on Oct 23.What was the ball of fuzzy light in the clear sky amungst the stars?
You probably saw the Holmes comet--it unexpectedly got a lot brighter, making it visible to the naked eye.
I agree with Theresa. Most comets have a tail. However for some reason, this one dosn't show much of one. It just expands outward in all directions.
From your description, they're probably right. But the sky is a big place, so next time you ask it would help to give your location, the time, and the direction you were looking.
